Los Angeles, California – In a shocking turn of events, celebrated author Jillian Lauren has been shot by police and charged with attempted murder during a chaotic incident involving hit-and-run suspects in her neighbourhood.
What Led to the Incident?
The drama unfolded on Tuesday, in the usually peaceful Eagle Rock neighbourhood in northeast Los Angeles. Officers were in the middle of a search for three hit-and-run suspects, who had fled the scene of a car crash earlier in the day.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the situation escalated when one of the suspects ended up on the street where Lauren lives with her husband, Scott Shriner, bassist for the band Weezer.
Jillian Lauren’s Involvement
Jillian Lauren, 51, reportedly came out of her house armed with a handgun.
She allegedly refused several police commands to drop the weapon.
As per the LAPD press release, she pointed the firearm at officers, prompting them to open fire.
She was shot in the shoulder in her backyard.
Local news outlets reported that Lauren may have opened fire at one of the suspects, believing he was trying to break into her property.
What Happened Next?
After being shot, Lauren ran back inside her house and remained there for about 30 minutes.
She later surrendered to police along with her babysitter, who was also taken into custody.
A 9mm handgun was found inside her home.
Lauren was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been charged with attempted murder.
Hit-and-Run Suspect Caught Nearby
Meanwhile, the California Highway Patrol confirmed the arrest of one of the hit-and-run suspects. According to spokesperson Daniel Keene:
The man was found in only his boxer shorts, hiding in a neighbour’s backyard.
News helicopters captured him removing his clothes, jumping into a pool, and even watering plants, apparently trying to blend in with locals.
The identities of the suspects have not yet been released, and two suspects remain at large.

She married Scott Shriner in 2005. Shriner joined Weezer two years later, a band loved for alternative rock hits like Buddy Holly and Hash Pipe.
